Camp Honi Hanta
Located in Bradenton, Camp Honi Hanta was acquired in 1953 and it consists of 123 acres of beautiful property. Camp Honi Hanta is a place where Girl Scouts can play, grow and learn. Honi Hanta means “Home on the River” and our little home is located on the shores of the Braden River. The camp contains many trails, a play field, a swimming pool, river access kayaking and canoeing, a ropes course and climbing wall, an air conditioned lodge with a small commercial kitchen, restrooms with shower facilities, and various sleeping accommodations. In October, 2009, a local community bank donated a 27 acre parcel of land adjacent to camp. The land, which we’ve officially titled “Okeelanta Island” (named for the tidal soil that makes up most of the island), is located directly on the Braden River is about 60% marshland with an upland strip that goes directly through the center of the property.
The lodge can be used for large group events for dining and/or program activities. There are tables and chairs for up to 120 people. The building is air-conditioned and tiled. There are two screened-in porches attached as well as electricity, fans, lights, and water fountains. The building is fully accessible for persons with disabilities.
